Patrick Malone has a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was part of a team at The Learning Company that worked on educational software for children, including Reader Rabbit 1—the world's best selling reading software for children.

In 1998 he chose to leave a successful career in high-tech to learn to fly and pursue a long-time dream of becoming a bushpilot. He is now a Commercial Pilot with Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings, and has flown his Cessna 185 in the USA, Canada, Europe, Africa, and the North Atlantic.
